Q: Have you ever read a book that you thought you would hate -- ? Did you end up hating it? Did you end up loving it? Or would you never do that?
My answer is easy: The Catcher in the Rye! I thought it'd be just another boring old English book, but it turned out to be really good, and I learned a lot of life lessons from it. Holden Caufield was one of a kind!
OMG same for me! High five!

I read Catcher last year, long after leaving school, and wasn't overly thrilled with it. I concluded it was a book that younger people would appreciate more. But don't get me wrong, I did like it okay.

A friend recommended it to me, and I still haven't read it due to what you said above. D: I'll give it a try one day, though, I think. People seem to love it, so there must be something to it, right? :D

ReplyDeleteI've never read that one. And to be honest, I don't think I will anytime soon. Although I know a lot of people love it. Glad you ended up liking it.
ReplyDeleteI hated that book. Yuck. Glad you liked it though!

Unfortunately, if I hate a book in the beginning, I put it down, and if I think I'll hate it, I'll never pick it up. Probably missed a lot of good ones that way. :(

ReplyDeleteHi!

Haha, this is one I read on my own because I never had to read it for school and I was curious what all the hype was about... and I haaaaaated it. So much... almost as much as I hated Wuthering Heights (which I did have to read for school). It was one of the few classics I read that I didn't like.
ReplyDeleteAlternatively, I really loved the book that pays homage to Catcher in the Rye, The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Lord of the Flies. I didn't actually end up hating it, but I didn't love it either. (Thank you High School.) There's so much AWESOME to read that I can't possibly fit in anything I think I might hate. =)
ReplyDeleteDon't really care for that book, but that is a really great example! :) I'm a new GFC follower. My FF: http://diamondinroughcoal.blogspot.com/2013/04/follow-me-friday-17.html

Cool that you really liked a book most "have" to read! I know I've read it but it was a couple of lives ago and I don't remember it. Maybe I should read it again! :)
